Nia Rhodes Jackson, Executive Director

Mrs. Rhodes Jackson joined the Friends in August 2006. Her most recent position was as Brooklyn Botanic Garden’s Community Director for the Brooklyn Academy of Science and the Environment. In this capacity she developed environmental programming and external partnerships to aid the school’s development. Previously she had served as the Academy Director for the Allen Christian School in Jamaica, Queens, overseeing curriculum development and implementation for a staff of 30. From 2001-2003 Mrs. Rhodes Jackson was the chair of the New York Advisory Board for the Tavis Smiley Foundation’s Youth 2 Leaders Program. She has also served as the Queens liaison for the New York Knicks Reading Zone program and as a member of Medgar Ever’s College Learning Community Network. Mrs. Rhodes Jackson She has a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies from Brown University.


Geoffrey Hockert
, Program Manager

Mr. Hockert has been with the Friends since November 2005. He brings wide-ranging public sector experience and expertise in environmental policy. He has taught environmental education both in the U.S. and abroad. He holds a Master’s degree in International Affairs and Environmental Policy from Columbia University and a Bachelor’s degree in History from McGill University.
